A newly released report on Napa County’s housing crisis reached the not-at-all-shocking conclusion that there isn’t enough housing to meet demand. As any Econ 101 student can tell you, that’s a recipe for rapidly increasing prices and people struggling to put a roof over their head. The question is what Napa County and its cities will do about it, because inaction isn’t working.
The county tasked Generation Housing, a Santa Rosa-based housing advocacy group, with producing the “State of Housing in Napa Valley” report. It was nearly a year in the making. Napa County isn’t unique in having a housing crisis, but it is unusual in seeking comprehensive hard data to inform its policies.
