#WeAreGenH Housing Stories: Sue Sullivan

Sue Sullivan, 64, lost her home in the 2017 wildfires. She now lives in Bell Manor, a 95-unit complex reserved for seniors and persons with disabilities. After the fires, Sue didn’t know where to turn. From information provided at the Local Assistance Center, Sue and her roommate learned about Burbank Housing. The folks at Burbank directed them where to go, what to do, and how to do it. Grateful, Sue explained that, “they helped us in every way, and most importantly they helped us get an apartment, which is the best place I’ve ever lived, I love it”.

Prior to the fires, Sue lived in Journey’s End Mobile Home park and had no experience with any kind of public or social help. Sue has lived in Sonoma County nearly all her life; it’s the place she calls home. Sue feels fortunate to have landed in her Burbank Apartment: “If everyone could live their final days in a place like this, it would be amazing”. Unfortunately, affordable housing supply is so low in Sonoma County that the wait time can be up to 10 years.

“Always keep your head up and try to be positive in any way you can and good things will come”, these are Sue’s words of advice. When asked what she’s passionate about, she responded that she is passionate about low cost senior housing and was excited to learn about Generation Housing’s efforts.
