Never has it been more clear how inextricably linked housing is to health, to education, and to the local economy. And the inequities in housing are laid bare by the current pandemic, where those without homes, with overcrowded households, or with unsafe or unstable housing are suffering higher disease rates, have poorer environments for education, and suffer greater mental health impacts of the shelter-in-place health orders. To protect and lift up our most vulnerable, and with them, our community as a whole, we must grapple with and find solutions to historical and enduring housing inequities.
I am pleased to announce that Generation Housing and Los Cien have partnered to host a two-part virtual Housing Equity Series.
- The first installment will be on August 20, 2020 at 6 p.m. is In Conversation with Richard Rothstein, author of The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America.
- The second event, in early October, date TBA, will be a presentation of a Housing Equity Scorecard prepared by Generation Housing, and a panel of local community leaders discussing the historical and existing inequities in local housing and as potential solutions.
